Cholera


To meet any Immediate? Case of Cholera – one having taken place this morning? - the following resolution has been adopted


That a temporary Board of Health be constituted consisting of the ?------, to adopt such measures as the rec---cy of any case may require, and that a Vestry be ?--------ly called on the subject

At a Vestry held at the Vestry Room of this parish on Monday the 29th day of October 1849, pursuant to public notice, the following resolutions unanimously adopted : viz:-


That the self-constituted Board of Health formed? on this ecce-----y of Saturday Last be fully established, and that this Vestry is testimony of its approval of the Measures already adopted by that Board. hereby authorize the further adoption of such precautionary Measures as from time to time they may deem expedient for preventing the spread of Cholera, and for ?p----ting the health of the parishioners generally.


That to permeate? the efficiency of this said Board, and to adapt as to the wants of the parish at large. the following members be added, namely -

Wm. Langdon, Mr. M.S Bassett, Wm. Johns, Mr. Luke Bice, Mr. Malachi Bice, & Mr. Francis? Bice


That the reception of mendicant* Lodgers by Elizabeth Stephens at her house at Summercourt be considered a nuisance which this Vestry pledges itself to use all lawful means to suppress, and that the Board of Health as here? constituted do forthwith adopt such measures for its suppression as the law affords.


That Mr. Varcoe the proprietor of Stephens' House be requested not to let it to any person for the purpose of receiving Lodgers, & that Mr. Walker be respectfully requested to communicate with Mr. Varcoe for that purpose.


That in case of an application from any mendicant for shelter for a night, parish officers be requested to offer an order of admission? to the Union? House, and if this is refused to procure an outhouse or stable? for that purpose, and that the food to be administered to such mendicant be bread and water only, at the discretion of the officers
